Dallas Skelton  "Send Dallas a Message"
St. Mary's Hospital- Surgical Trauma ICU Rm. 2103
Condition- Stable
No Visitors or Guests allowed at this time.
Dallas was hit by a car and critically injured on April 21, 2009.  Both of her lower legs are severely broken along with her hip.
Updates
April 23, 2009
Dallas will be undergoing surgery today to put pins in her left leg.  Her right leg is the most severely injured and it may be up to a month before the doctors know if that leg can be saved.  They are giving her a 50% chance of keeping that leg.  Her doctors feel that the hip fracture will heal on it's own.
April 23, 2009- 5:11 p.m.
The surgery to put pins in Dallas' left leg was successful.  The doctor now believes she needs a surgical procedure called the "Flap Method"  to help save her right leg.  This is not done locally and they are contacting hospitals in Louisville, Nashville and Indianapolis to try and find an accepting physician who does this procedure.
April 24, 2009  3:50 p.m.
Dallas is on her way to Indianapolis, IN via ambulance.  Hospital information is as follows:
Methodist Hospital
1701 N. Senate Blvd.
Indianapolis, IN  46202
Rm- 5078
No visitors or guests at this time.  They expect her to be there 2-6 weeks.
April 25, 2009 5:30 p.m.
Last night they had a hard time getting Dallas' pain under control but once they did she rested comfortably and has been sleeping a lot today.  She did eat for the first time today and Curtis said she did pretty well.  The doctor at Methodist is very optomistic and is looking at a new procedure other than the one they initially sent her to Indianapolis to have done.  This procedure will be easier on Dallas and has a very good success rate.  The plan right now is to do surgery again on Monday and the doctor will know more once he gets her leg opened back up.
Curtis says that her attitude is very positive.
April 27, 2009
Dallas came out of surgery about 6:00 p.m.  They removed dead tissue in the right leg and put in a "pack" to help fight infection.  Tomorrow they are going to do an arteriogram to assess the blood flow in her leg.  They won't know the results until Wednesday.  She will have surgery again on Thursday to further evaluate the condition of her leg.
Dallas' attitude remains exceptionally good and says that she can feel the support and prayers from everyone.
April 30, 2009 3:40 p.m.
Dallas had surgery on both of her legs today.  The orthopaedic surgeon worked on her left lower leg to give her more mobility in her ankle.  Now they just have to watch for infection.  The surgeon put plates in her right leg to stabilize it and an external rod to keep her foot flat.  The infection risk looks better and the infection "packs" did their job.  He did not have to remove anymore dead muscle or skin.  The plastic surgeon is still unsure as to what course of action is going to be best for Dallas in the long run.  He told Curtis that he was going to confer with another doctor and would make a decision in the next couple of days.
May 02, 2009  4:00 p.m.
Dallas went into surgery this morning around 7:30a.m.  The surgeon transferred muscle from her back to her leg and put a skin graft over the top to close the wound.  The surgery went very well but the next 72 hours will be crucial regarding the new skin growth and blood flow.  They will then monitor her for the next one to two weeks to see if it heals properly.
The hospital is currently under quarantine due to the swine flu, so no visitors are allowed.  Dallas will be in a different room now.  Her new room number is 7047.
May 03, 2009
For the time being, please do not call Dallas' room as she is recovering from surgery.
May 08, 2009
Dallas is currently doing fine.  The doctors are closely monitoring her right leg to make sure the muscle and skin tissue is not rejected and that her pulse is good in the leg.  If all goes well, the next step is light therapy.  Dallas' birthday is May 19.  If you would like to send her a card, please mail it to her home address:  320 W. Mulberry St., Elberfeld IN  47613.  Janet and Curtis will take the cards to her.
May 17, 2009 8:30 p.m.
Dallas wants to thank everyone for all the "get well" and birthday cards she has received.  She is receiving therapy on all but her right leg.  The right leg is healing well and looking really good.  It looks like she will be in the hospital a couple more weeks and then will more to a rehabilitation in Indianapolis for a couple of weeks before she comes back to Evansville for more therapy.  She is sitting up in a special chair for short periods of time now and is enjoying being able to see out the window and eat her meals.

June 9, 2009
Dallas is continuing therapy at RHI.  She is working on bearing weight on her left leg and is bending the right leg at the knee.  Right now they do not know how much longer she will stay in Indianapolis.  Dallas wants to thank everyone for there love and prayers and has really enjoyed the visits from those who have made the trip to see her.  Dallas asked that Proverbs Chapter 3 5-6 be included here. 5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. 6. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
June 25, 2009
Dallas has moved again.  She is receiving approximately 3 hours of therapy a day and has walked 40-45 feet using her left leg and her walker. Great news!  Dallas' new address is:

From Dallas-

To all my wonderful Family and Friends,

Thank you everyone for all of the get well and sympathy cards.  I am getting better each day with all the therapy.  The girls in therapy are really great.

My trip back to Evansville went really well.  I was getting pretty tired by the time we got back to Indianapolis.  I am really glad Curtis and Janet seen that I could come back.  It helped so much to see Charlotte (my sister & best friend).  Psalms 118:8 Faith doesn’t get you around trouble, it gets you through it.

To those of you that have put a gift in the “Sunshine Box” they have really been great!  Thank you.

Please keep praying that my bones mend in my right leg when I go back to the doctors in August.  Thanks again for all the prayers and cards.

Love each and every one of you,

Dallas

From Curtis-  Dallas is now able to put some weight on her right leg.  She is walking with a walker to therapy and back.  She is close to being able to come home.
